If you have been disabled for 12 months or expect to be disabled for 12 months, you may be eligible for Social Security Disability. To be eligible, you generally must have worked for five (5) out of the last ten (10) years before you were disabled, and you must demonstrate that you are disabled under the Social Security definition of “disability”. That means you must prove that you have a physical or mental impairment (or some combination of impairments) severe enough to prevent you from performing not only your regular work, but any work for which you might be capable of performing, considering your age, education and former work experience.
